Service and testing

A yearly service, and a test with the house on the unit

A standby generator that has not run under load in a year is a guess. We service it and run it.

Our service technician works on units we installed and on units we didn't. The visit is the same either way: look at the unit, service it to the maker's schedule, and run the house on it.

  • Service to the maker's schedule

  • A transfer test with the house on the unit

  • A written note of what we found

When you need it

Signs it needs a visit

A generator that runs fine on its own test may still not carry the house.

  • It's been a year

Units are serviced once a year, or by hours of use, whichever the maker names.

  • The weekly self-test sounds different

A new noise or a skipped test is worth a visit.

  • It's a unit someone else installed

A check tells you what you own and what it carries.

  • You've added a load

A new air handler or pool pump changes what the unit has to carry.

  • The season is close

Service books up in the spring, before the first storm is named.

  • It didn't start in the last outage

Call us. We check the unit and the switch first.

Questions

Questions about this job

What happens if it doesn't start?

Call us. We check the unit and the transfer switch first, and we deal with the maker if the unit needs parts.

Will it run through a hurricane?

A standby generator is built to run outdoors in bad weather, but nothing is a promise. Flooding, a gas supply that stops or a fault in the unit can all stop it. That is why we set the pad against your flood zone and test the unit under load before we leave.

Do you do emergency work?

We install, service and test generators, and we don't take calls at night. Call the office during the hours above, or leave a message and it is returned the next working morning.

Book the yearly service

Send the make of the unit and the year, if you know them, and we'll set a time.
